On Friday, October 9th, Eastern Elementary School students will participate in an “Up North” Jog-A-Thon sponsored by the Eastern Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Over the past two weeks students have been seeking pledges for the number of laps completed at the Jog-A-Thon. The Jog-A-Thon is a valuable opportunity to teach students lifetime lessons in fitness, generosity, and teamwork as they work together for a common cause.
The “Up North” theme celebrates people, places, and things unique to Northern Michigan. Each class has a team name and has created a themed flag or poster to display outside their classroom, during the Jog-A-Thon, and at the Jog-A-Thon assemblies. This year’s teams are:
- Pre-K, Kindergarten Enrichment, and Kindergarten: the Northern Michigan Apple
o Pre-K - the Red & Golden Delicious Apples
o Kindergarten Enrichment – the Honey Crisps
o Kindergarten – the Northern Spies
- First Grade – the Petoskey Rockers
- Second Grade – the Northern Michigan Butterflies
- Second and Third Grade Multi-Age – the Frog Fudgies
- Third Grade – the Cherry Pits
- Fourth Grade – the Sleeping Bears
- Fourth and Fifth Grade Multi-Age – the Mackinac Masters
- Fifth Grade – the Beach Buddies
The Team Spirit Assembly will be from 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. in the gymnasium and the Jog-A-Thon schedule is as follows:
