The first official meeting of the Steering Committee for Traverse City Area Public Schools’ Long Range Master Planning (LRMP) initiative is scheduled for Monday, August 28th at 7 PM. The Steering Committee will serve as a direct link to the community throughout the yearlong process that will include monthly meetings, three public forums, and input sessions at each school.
The process will result in recommendations to TCAPS’ Superintendent, Jim Feil. A final recommendation to TCAPS’ Board of Education will follow with a plan to resolve pressing District-wide program and facility issues related to how schools should be configured to produce the best student performance. Kingscott & Associates of Kalamazoo will provide facilitation for the development of TCAPS’ LRMP, and brings a wealth of experience in providing this kind of support based on their work with school districts in Michigan and around the Midwest.
“The Steering Committee membership is designed to represent a cross section of the community. The group includes representation from all areas and all age groups within the region. It reflects a group with vast expertise and experience. We are very eager to begin to draw upon their energy and enthusiasm for this process, “ remarked Jim Feil, TCAPS’ Superintendent.
The Steering Committee, comprised of approximately 100 members, will engage in monthly meetings, help facilitate public forums, and become knowledgeable about educational and facility issues confronting the school system. Throughout the process, the Steering Committee will work constructively to create alternatives to address these issues, gather information from the public, and provide input to the planning process related to the various questions before the District.
“TCAPS is an outstanding school system trying to reach higher by tapping the wealth of talent residing in this community. We deeply appreciate the time, interest, and commitment across the community and we look forward an open and engaging process that results in solutions that will enrich our entire community,” expressed Jim Feil.
