Traverse City Area Public Schools’ SCI-MA-TECH (SMT) program will host Michigan State University (MSU) Science Theatre on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Lars Hockstad Auditorium (located inside Central Grade School), 301 West Seventh Street.

MSU Science Theatre is a student-run outreach organization at Michigan State University seeking to educate and excite students of all ages about science through interactive demonstrations. MSU Science Theatre aims to demystify and discourage stereotypes of science and scientists and to be a source of accurate and timely information about the science that affects our daily lives. The presentation will involve the audience at every possible opportunity including encouraging the audience to ask questions.   Possible demonstrations might include methanol cannons, elephant toothpaste, non-burning money, liquid nitrogen, and tesla coils.

Ticket sales for this event will benefit the SCI-MA-TECH program. Recommended donations are $5.00 per person and $15.00 per family.

SCI-MA-TECH is based at Traverse City Central High School for students in grades 9-12. SCI-MA-TECH offers students enhanced opportunities in science, mathematics, engineering, and technology. SCI-MA-TECH inspires and challenges students through an individualized and integrated curriculum. SCI-MA-TECH has a rigorous curriculum that engages students through participation in exciting and innovative explorations designed to fully prepare them for success in post-secondary education and beyond. SCI-MA-TECH students also visit colleges and businesses, hear from speakers, conduct authentic research, complete an internship, and participate in extracurricular activities such as the FIRST Robotics Competition and underwater ROV building competition.

To purchase tickets in advance or for more information, please contact John Failor, SCI-MA-TECH Director at 933-3554 or failorjo@tcaps.net.
