Traverse City West Senior High School’s (WSH) staff and students have been busy giving the best gift of the season – the gift of community service and giving.  Staff and students have participated in the following wonderful service opportunities this holiday season:

  • Staff collect over $1,450 for holiday certificates for students in need at WSH.
  • Senior Class Council served lunch at Central Methodist Church.
  • Mr. McDougall’s classes raised funds for the Father Fred Foundation.
  • NHS sponsored an “Adopt a Family.”  They supplied over 80 gifts for 18 individuals in the Traverse City area.
  • Mr. Dumon’s classes raised over $500 with the Biggest, Baddest bake sale.  Proceeds were used to purchase books for the Angel Tree program. 
  • Mr. Rice’s classes had a project to send care packages to U.S. soldiers serving in Iraq.  15 care packages were sent containing items such as snacks, games, personal hygiene items, and movies as well as holiday greeting card signed by all the students with a picture of the class. 
  • WSH students volunteering for Petsafe Alliance, Goodwill, and Women’s Resource Center during the holidays. 
  • WSH students sent 80 holiday greeting cards to injured veterans at Walter Reed and Grand Rapids Veterans Hospitals.
  • WSH Key Club worked with Central High School and Saint Francis to package 9,860 nutritious meals for the "Feed the Children Foundation."
  • WSH Key Club members rang the bell for the Salvation Army with Kiwanis members.
  • WSH Key Club members worked for the Goodwill Holiday Food Drive.
  • WSH Key Club members helped at the Interlochen Public Library Holiday Party.
  • WSH Key Club members help read and play with the children at the Women's Resource Center shelter.
  • WSH Key Club members donated coats and sleds for a needy family.
  • WSH Key Club members purchased books for needy children through the Angel Tree at Horizon Books.
  • Students for World Awareness raised over $650 for the Harvest Hope Project.
  • Staff collected ornaments for a 2005 graduate who is ill with Cystic Fibrosis in Ohio.
  • Students for World Awareness also sold 185 AIDS Awareness Ribbons on World AIDS Day Dec 1st. ($185 to AIDS Research)
