TCAPS’ Board of Education has announced the finalized membership for the Budget Advisory Task Force. The first organizational meeting is scheduled for August 31st, at 6:00 p.m. at the Boardman Administration Center, Curriculum Conference Room. Task force meetings are open to the public.
An Ad Hoc Committee that included Board members Gary Appel, Suzann Brooke, and Marjie Rich, appointed five representatives from letters of interest received. Board members, David Barr and Megan Crandall will serve as Co-Chairs for the Task Force. TCAPS Superintendent Jim Feil appointed five representatives that include four administrators and a District Advisory Committee parent. There will be one representative per employee group as appointed by the leadership of each employee group, with the exception of TCEA, which will have two representatives (one elementary teacher and one secondary teacher).
“TCAPS is extremely grateful for our community’s support for quality education. I want to acknowledge and thank the staff, parents, and community members for giving their time to work together with our school district to help address the severe funding challenges we are facing,” remarked Superintendent Feil. “TCAPS continues to perform as well or better than many school districts that receive much higher levels of funding from the State. Our strength is a direct result of outstanding people, programs, and proactive management of resources. Over the last eight years, TCAPS has reduced its overall budget by nearly $10 million. Now we are faced with state funding cuts that may necessitate even more substantial reductions by 2010-2011. With support from our community, TCAPS is determined to navigate through this difficult period and we will keep our focus on providing the highest quality education possible to prepare our students for the future,” emphasized Feil.

The task force will complete its work with a written report to the full Board of Education by December 1, 2009.
