The Traverse City Area Public Schools Board of Education will establish a special Task Force for the purpose of providing the Board of Education and its Superintendent with recommendations for balancing the District’s 2010-2011 budget with the goal of maintaining a 10% minimum fund balance sustainable over time.
The Task Force should consider the District’s vision, mission, and 2008-2011 goals in formulating their recommendations.
The recommendation should include budget reductions of:
- $2 million
- $4 million
- $6 million
Meeting dates and times will be determined by the Task Force, but it is recommended by the Board that the first meeting be held prior to the start of the 2009-2010 school year. The scope of a volunteer’s commitment will require full attendance at 8-10 meetings from September – December. The Task Force will complete its work with a written report to the full Board by December 1, 2009, followed by a discussion with the Board at its December 14, 2009 meeting.
The Ad Hoc Budget Advisory Committee will select all representatives of the Task Force unless otherwise noted below. The Task Force is to be comprised of the following members:
- One representative per employee group as appointed by the leadership of each employee group, with the exception of TCEA, which will have two representatives (one elementary teacher and one secondary teacher)
- Five central office representatives or designees as appointed by the Superintendent
- Three TCAPS parent representatives (one secondary, one elementary, and one special education)
- One business representative from the private sector
- One representative from a non-profit organization
- One board member from the Board Finance Committee
- The Board of Education plans to engage Ms. Mary Grover to serve in the role of Task Force facilitator
