Traverse City Area Public Schools and Cherry Knoll Elementary School would like to thank the Alcoa Foundation and Grand Traverse Stamping for awarding Cherry Knoll a $7,500 Small Community Grant this year for its “Partnerships for Family Literacy Program.” The program focuses on family literacy for Pre-K through fifth grade by providing additional math and language arts materials for improving reading, writing, and math skills at home and school.
“The Partnerships for Family Literacy Program” provides useful tools, materials, and strategies to promote reading and writing as these skills relate to problem solving and math skills with our young learners. Grand Traverse Stamping, under the direction of plant manager, Bob Lohr, has been a faithful, long-standing partner in education with a commendable commitment to well-rounded, strong education.” remarked Linda Barker, Cherry Knoll Elementary School Principal. “Cherry Knoll Elementary School appreciates their continued dedication and volunteerism to our school community. Students have been the direct beneficiaries of their generous efforts.”
Grand Traverse Stamping has been Partners in Education with Cherry Knoll Elementary School for the past nine years. Through their support in the past, the school has been able to provide increased literacy and math materials and instruction, Spanish instruction, enrichment speakers, author’s visits, nonfiction reading materials for fourth graders, and new technology. This year, funds will be used to purchase Marilyn Burns math modules for small groups for students to improve basic math skills and to purchase Leveled Literacy Intervention Kits reading materials for small group instructions. Both programs are research based to build literacy skills in core content areas.
Please contact Cherry Knoll Elementary School Principal Linda Barker at 933-8940 for more information.
