Traverse City Central High School Debate Teams Perform Well at Gaylord Swing Debate Tournament Minimize

Traverse City Central High School Debate Teams participated in the November 29th Gaylord Swing Debate Tournament and competed against teams from Gaylord, Petoskey, Elk Rapids, Manton, and McBain. In a swing debate, teams are asked to debate both affirmative and negative positions on the season’s topic: “Resolved: That the United States federal government should establish a policy substantially increasing the number of persons serving in one or more of the following national service programs: Americorps, Citizen Corps, Senior Corps, Peace Corps, Learn and Serve America, Armed Forces.”

Team results are as follows:

            Novice Blue Division

            Sarah Herpst earned Speaker #10

            Allie Robinson earned Speaker #7

            Novice Gold Division

            Tyler Sylvester earned Speaker #2

            Tyler Sylvester and Kayla Kester took 3rd place in the team competition.

            Varsity Blue Division

            Perry Nerem earned Speaker #10

            Josh Winters earned Speaker #9

            Holly Sturgeon earned Speaker #6

            Laura Sigworth earned Speaker #5

           Laura Sigworth and Holly Sturgeon earned Honorable Mention in the team competition.

            Varsity Gold Division

            Aaron Trippe earned Speaker #10

            Anna Frick earned Speaker #6

            Matt Madion earned Speaker #4

            Matt Madion and Aaron Trippe took 2nd place in the team competition.

Anna Frick, Neal Endicott, and Holly Sturgeon each earned 30 out of 30 speaker points in one of their respective varsity division debate rounds.
