Sixth grader, Ben Morgenstern, was selected to represent Willow Hill Elementary School and the state of Michigan at the 2006 Junior National Young Leaders Conference (JNYLC) held in October 2006 in Washington D.C. Ben was nominated by his fifth grade teacher, Candiss Brewer, for his outstanding academics and leadership skills.
As a Junior National Scholar, Ben, joined other selected middle school students from around the country. While in Washington D.C. the scholars attended a special reception on Capitol Hill, explored historic Harpers Ferry, attended a sleepover in the interactive Maryland Science Center, experienced the Museum of American History, and visited the Lincoln, Vietnam Veterans, and Korean War Memorials. Scholars were also given the chance to meet and learn from some of today’s leaders as well as hear stories of high achievers from the past.
