On Monday, November 27, 2006 at 9:00 a.m. Traverse Heights Elementary School students will be recognized for their outstanding efforts during the “Reading Will Take You Places” program.
For a seven-week period, students were asked to keep track of their reading time at home. For every minute read at home, a fanciful school bus has traveled around the school library one mile. The students were challenged to read a total of 24,900 minutes in order to travel the circumference of the Earth. The students read an amazing 82,865 minutes and have traveled around the world more than three times!
Monday’s celebration will include certificates for the school’s top readers in Preschool through fifth grade. Each participant in the program will receive a small prize. Fifth grader, Tony Whitney, was the top reader for the entire school and will receive a $50 savings bond. All incentive prizes were donated by Mark Newhouse of State Farm Insurance.
