Traverse City Central High School and Traverse City West Senior High School Debate Teams are gearing up for the final Northern Michigan Debate League (NMDL) tournament of the season on Wednesday, November 15th. They will debate against teams from Elk Rapids, Gaylord, Petoskey, McBain, Manton, East Jordan, and St. Francis. Each two-person team will debate two rounds. There are 30 debates in each round. Team and individual medals and trophies will be awarded after the final round. The debates will take place at Traverse City Central High School “C” Building classrooms from 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. – 6:45 p.m. The public is welcome; admission is free.
This year’s national debate topic is: “Resolved: That the United States federal government should establish a policy substantially increasing the number of persons serving in one or more of the following national service programs: Americorps, Citizen Corps, Senior Corps, Peace Corps, Learn and Serve America, Armed Forces.”
