Traverse City Area Public Schools received two awards by the National School Public Relations Association for programs that help build community awareness in the 2008 Publications and Electronic Media Contest.

An Award of Merit for Distinguished Achievement was received in the category of “School District Audio/Visual Programs & Presentations” for TCAPS’ “Building Our Future” video.
The video was created to raise community awareness about TCAPS’ vast amount of infrastructure that needs to be maintained and to educate the public on the school district’s long-term capital planning strategy to keep a low debt millage. The video was produced with much in-kind support from TCAPS, staff, alumni, and community organizations to minimize costs wherever possible. TCAPS would especially like to recognize the following key partners who made substantial contributions: Greenlight Marketing, Petersen Productions, Katie Tibaldi, and Jack O’Malley. The video was used to communicate with the community-at-large for the 2007 Annual School Election. Video segments continue to receive an average of 400+ visits monthly on TCAPS’ Web site: www.tcaps.net/bond.

An “Award of Honorable Mention for Distinguished Achievement” was received in the category of “School District Identity/Image Package” for Traverse City Area Public Schools’ identity branding strategy. “TCAPS’ printing and graphics capabilities contribute significant expertise and efficiencies in support of student achievement and communications efforts across the school district,” noted Alison Arnold, Director of Marketing, Communications, and Volunteer Services.

Certificates of awards were presented to TCAPS for each category. There were 1,170 entries in this year’s contest. In the audio/visual portion, TCAPS ranked in the top quartile of awards. In the publications category, TCAPS ranked in the second quartile of awards.
