Traverse City Area Public Schools salutes the accomplishments of all area educators who were recognized on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at the Outstanding Educator of the Year Ceremony held at Milliken Auditorium. Five Traverse City Area Public Schools’ employees were among the honorees to receive the Outstanding Educator of the Year Award.
The following employees were recognized for their dedication to all TCAPS’ students, the community, and their colleagues:
§ Julie Faulkner, Long Lake Elementary School Principal
“Julie is an exceptional leader. She has set forth a forward focused vision for our school that is unlike any other in our district, region, or state,” comments one Long Lake Elementary School parent.
§ Stephanie Long, Traverse City West Senior High School Teacher
“Stephanie is an exceptional teacher. She is dedicated to her students and their success and is a leader among her peers,” states Traverse City West Senior High School Principal Joe Tibaldi. “Ninety-percent of students taking her Advanced Placement Language Arts class pass their AP exams.”
§ Sherry Stoltz, Traverse City West Junior High School Ninth Grade Language Arts Teacher
“Sherry is a master at creating a warm, welcoming, and safe learning environment for her students,” remarks Traverse City West Junior High School Teacher Inara Kurt. “ Students love coming to Mrs. Stoltz’s class not only because it is bright, cheerful, and displays their work, but also because she makes Language Arts come alive!”
§ Connie Thompson, Old Mission Peninsula School First Grade Teacher
“Connie is the most conscientious, sensitive, committed, and competent teachers with whom I have ever worked,” says Old Mission Peninsula School Principal Patty Olson. “She has spent nearly 25 years nurturing and teacher our very young children. Connie is committed to the well-being and success of each child in her care.”
§ Mary LeMieux, Traverse City West Senior High School Lead Custodian
Traverse City West Senior High School Principal Joe Tibaldi notes, “Mary is a very conscientious and hard working employee. She is always willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done and to help students and staff with anything they may need.”
This year’s initiative is facilitated by the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District in partnership with the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce and the TBA Credit Union. The Outstanding Educator of the Year Award Program was started by the Chamber in 1984 and nominations are accepted from throughout a five county region. Out of 100 nominations received, these TCAPS employees are five out of the top ten educators to be honored this year.
