Cherry Knoll Elementary School, along with seven other local area schools participated in a community program call My School’s Cool, sponsored by the Grand Traverse Mall, which challenged schools to earn points through a variety of tactics, including submitting receipts from mall purchases, goodwill driven activities and “extra credit” points from involvement in events and promotions at the Grand Traverse Mall.
Cherry Knoll won first place and $10,000 by earning a total of 732,055 points. Money will go towards the future walking track and exercise stations. The project will begin once the reconstruction of Cherry Knoll Elementary School is complete.

- Old Mission Peninsula School
- Silver Lake Elementary School
- Westwoods Elementary School
Silver Lake Elementary School received $5,000 for second place in the contest as well as $1,000 in quarterly earned prize money. The money received will be used for playground improvements and classroom materials.
Blair Elementary School received $1,500 for fourth place in the contest as well as $500 from a random drawing held during the competition. All monies will be used towards student programs, field trips, assemblies, etc.
Glenn Loomis Elementary School earned $500 for fifth place. These funds will transfer with the students to Central Grade School in the 2008-2009 school year.
