Jan Havens, lead secretary at Central Grade School, was one of four finalists who were honored on May 13, 2008 by the State Board of Education during the “Michigan School Support Person of the Year Award” (SSPOY) ceremony.

“Our Central Grade School community is enriched beyond measure by Jan Havens’ professional support in our school office,” remarked Central Grade School Principal Sharon Dionne. “Staff members, parents, and students have all come to rely on Jan’s knowledge, efficiency, and friendly nature. While we at our school building recognize the value of having strong support staff like Jan, it is nice to have others recognize her as well. All school support staff make important contributions to teaching and learning and deserve to be recognized.”

The purpose of the SSPOY Award is to honor outstanding support personnel for their contributions to the success of the learning community and to focus public attention on the importance of school support personnel.
