On Monday, May 19, 2008 First Grade Teacher Joani Callighan from Traverse Heights Elementary School will be presented with a $252.00 grant sponsored by TBA Credit Union and MEEMIC Insurance/Harvitt Agency at 8:45 a.m. in the school gymnasium.
The grant will supplement the school’s literacy program with Reading Strategy Cards that focus on seven essential early reading strategies and skills necessary for developing reading comprehension. These colorful poster-sized cards pair text with beautiful pictures that encourage and engage young readers with the meaning behind the written words by self-monitoring their understanding and developing cross-checking strategies. These cards will be available in the school’s Literacy Library for staff to utilize with their students.
