As part of the Model U.N. program, approximately seventy students from all over the state, including forty from Traverse City West Senior High School, will converge at Traverse City Central High School this weekend for the Traverse City Historical Security Councils Conference.
During the Historical Security Council, delegates are taken back in time to debate issues already decided by the real Security Council. Delegates represent the countries that sat on the Security Council at the time of the original crisis. They have the opportunity to follow a path similar to the real delegations or to break new ground in trying to solve the problems. Delegates are expected to act according to the policies of those countries at that point in history. This year’s topics are the six-day war – 1967, the Falklands – 1982, and the situation in Kosovo – 1999.
The conference runs on Saturday, April 26th, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday, April 27th, from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at TC Central High School’s C-Wing (classrooms east of the library).
