Members of SCI-MA-TECH program based at Traverse City Central High School have been invited to visit and test drive the da Vinci Surgical System. This system provides surgeons with an alternative to traditional types of surgery by using a robotic platform. This surgical treatment option is one of the most effective and least invasive options currently available providing patients with a quick recovery time. The da Vinci system is currently being used for cardiothoracic, gynecologic, and urologic surgeries.
SCI-MA-TECH students were invited to visit the da Vinci system because of their extensive involvement in robotics. SCI-MA-TECH students have recently competed in the FIRST Robotics Great Lakes Regional at Grand Valley State University. In addition to the FIRST Robotics Program, SCI-MA-TECH students are preparing to compete at the underwater remotely operated vehicle building competition in Alpena in April. The SCI-MA-TECH program offers students enhanced opportunities in math, science, and technology including special accelerated classes that utilize the latest in technology and research equipment. SCI-MA-TECH students also visit businesses and universities across the state, complete an internship in a career of their choice, hear from speakers, and participate in special extracurricular activities.
The SCI-MA-TECH students will be visiting the da Vinci Surgical System at the Grand Traverse Resort from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 27th. Media is welcome to attend. The da Vinci Surgical System will be open to the general public on Thursday, March 27th, and Friday, March 28th, from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and on Saturday, March 29th, from
12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Grand Traverse Resort.
