Traverse City Central High School and Traverse City West Senior High School Debate Teams are gearing up for the Northern Michigan Debate League (NMDL) Competitions. They will debate against teams from Elk Rapids, Gaylord, Petoskey, McBain, Manton, East Jordan, and St. Francis. Each two-person team will debate two rounds per night. There are 30 debates in each round.

This year’s national debate topic is: “Resolved: That the United States federal government should establish a policy substantially increasing the number of persons serving in one or more of the following national service programs: Americorps, Citizen Corps, Senior Corps, Peace Corps, Learn and Serve America, Armed Forces.”

Competition dates are: October 25, November 1, November 8, and November 15, 2006. All debates will take place at Traverse City Central High School “C” Building classrooms from 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. – 6:45 p.m.  The public is welcome; admission is free.
