Local author and past President of the Grand Traverse Pioneer and Historical Society, Robert E. Miller, was recognized and thanked at the October 8, 2007 TCAPS Board of Education meeting for his generosity to Traverse City Area Public Schools.
Mr. Wilson generously donated one complete set of his trilogy, Grand Traverse Legends, to each of TCAPS’ secondary schools. The three-book set begins with the earliest settlers to the Grand Traverse region dating back to 1838 and runs through 1900. Throughout the books, Wilson uses biographical sketches to tell of historical events and accomplishments. In this way, we learn more about the people who helped transform the Grand Traverse region from a primitive logging camp into a thriving community.
Mr. Wilson attended Traverse City Central High School and credits his love of local history to his eleventh grade history teacher, Mr. William Gerard, who in 1953, according to Wilson, had the gift of making history come alive.
Grand Traverse Legends is available for sale at the Grand Traverse Pioneer and Historical Society for anyone interested in obtaining the books.
