Traverse City Area Public Schools is proud to announce the following students have been named as Semifinalists and Commended Students in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program:

           

      Traverse City Central High School:

 

            Semifinalists:                           Jillian Bergsma and Aaron Trippe

 

            Commended Students:             Emily Burke and Laura Sigworth

 

      Traverse City West Senior High School:

 

            Semifinalists:                           Myles Boothroyd, Anna Cacciaglia, and Martin Fox

 

            Commended Students:             Eric Davis, Jordan Huffman, Jessica Oakley, Erin Riedel,

and Daniel Riggins

 

Each of these students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.4 million students in nearly 21,000 high schools entered the 2007 National Merit Program by taking the 2006 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants. 

 

The pool of Semifinalists, which represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state.  The semifinalists will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards, worth $34 million, that will be offered next spring.
