Traverse City East Junior High School will soon be enjoying a newly constructed tennis pavilion thanks to the efforts of a group known as The Friends of TC Tennis. The pavilion will be a focal point for players and spectators for tournaments, matches, and events. Features will include a storage area for tennis balls, roll-drys, scorecards, tables, and miscellaneous tennis-related supplies as well as a shaded viewing area to protect players, tournament officials, and spectators from the sun.
After the bidding process was completed, the TCAPS Board of Education awarded Robert T. Cole Construction the job of constructing the pavilion. Work will begin on the project shortly after Labor Day and should be completed by mid-October.
The Friends of TC Tennis has raised nearly $50,000 towards the construction of the tennis pavilion at TC East Junior High School. They have set aside $10,000 for each of the past three Memorial Day weekend Friends fundraisers to go toward this project. The additional funds needed to complete the fundraising effort was received through the generous support of the Oleson Foundation and Craig and Becky Tester, both have made a generous donation of $10,000.
