TRAVERSE CITY, MI (August 15, 2007) – Today the ACT testing company released national and state results for the high school graduating Class of 2007 based on the 2007 ACT. TCAPS’ District results showed TCAPS’ Class of 2007 scores exceeded the state and the nation in all subject tests including English, Reading, Math, and Science ACT tests. The average ACT composite score for TCAPS’ Class of 2007 was 22.6 as compared to the state average composite score of 21.5 for Michigan’s Class of 2007 and the national average composite score of 21.2.

“Our Class of 2007 ACT achievement results show a continued positive trend with TCAPS’ graduates performing higher than their peers in the state and nation in every subject area test,” remarked Superintendent Jim Feil. “TCAPS’ District track record of success on the ACT and our students’ sustained year-to-year positive achievement trends speak to the high caliber programs that TCAPS offers, including many Advance Placement offerings and rigorous coursework. These results reflect the exceptional teaching and learning that is happening in TCAPS’ classrooms and that contributes to the success and academic achievement of our students. Furthermore, these results distinguish our students and our school system among college recruiters as well, noted Superintendent Feil.

The ACT is a national college readiness assessment that is required or accepted by a vast majority of colleges in Michigan and the United States. Today, the ACT testing company released national and state results for the graduating Class of 2007. Student scores reflect the best score for those 2007 graduating seniors after possibly taking the test multiple times. Also announced today, were the Michigan MME and ACT results for eleventh graders who participated in the Michigan Merit Exam. Scores of the Michigan high school juniors who took the ACT as part of the Michigan Merit Exam this spring cannot be compared to the Class of 2007 scores that were released by the ACT testing company.

The public can view ACT national and state test results on the ACT Web site: http://www.act.org/news/data.html. Additionally, TCAPS’ District results are charted on TCAPS’ District Web site: www.tcaps.net
