Students from TCAPS’ secondary schools recently joined over 230 participants from 61 schools at the Herff Jones Yearbook Workshop to learn how to take better photographs, design yearbook pages, write journalistic stories, and use desktop publishing programs.
“Students who attend our summer workshop are exposed to all the basics of creating an award-winning yearbook. They are taught by some of the best yearbook advisers in the country and some of the most energetic yearbook representatives,” said Dave Loney, Director of Yearbook Fundamentals Workshop.
Students were recognized for their achievements during the workshop. The following awards were won by TCAPS’ students:
Teamwork Award
TC West Junior High School students Rachel Gauthier, Shelby Newhouse, and Ericka Behrendt
Desktop Publishing Award of Excellence
TC West Senior High School student Ashlee Cook
Award of Excellence
TC East Junior High School students Rebecca Guajardo, Katrina Samuel, and Chloe Seymour
TC Central High School student Samantha Breaux
The Yearbook Fundamental Workshop was held on the campus of Michigan State University, June 25-28. Students stayed in college dorm rooms and ate at the college cafeteria, as a preview to their college years.
In addition to skills that help them produce the yearbook, students and advisers participated in leadership building activities and developed merchandising plans to help sell yearbooks and advertising.
