On Monday, June 11, 2 007, Eastern Elementary School teachers, Julie Clark and Robbie Rogers, and their fourth grade students will be recognized for their hard work in preparing for the National Governor’s Conference to be held in Traverse City in July. The recognition ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the Eastern Elementary School Library.
As part of the fourth grade social studies curriculum, the fourth grade teachers and their students have spent the last six-month preparing brochures and letters showcasing the Grand Traverse region. These brochures and letters are sent to youth and families who request information from the Traverse City Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce regarding the region’s tourist opportunities.
In addition, the students have also prepared personal letters to each of the U.S. Governors inviting them to the Traverse City area for the National Governor’s Conference. Students’ letters include facts about each Governor’s respective state, the Grand Traverse region, and the state of Michigan.
This project is made possible through a Learn and Serve grant funded by the Michigan Community Service Commission, and through the encouragement of the Traverse City Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce.
Please contact TCAPS’ Learn and Serve Grant Coordinator Trish Fiebing at 933-5654 for further information. All visitors are encouraged to check in at the Main Office prior to attending the ceremony.
