Traverse City Central Senior High School is pleased to announce the awarding of a high school diploma to World War II veteran, Wendell V. Holmes at the school’s commencement ceremony scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at Interlochen Arts Academy, Kresge Auditorium. Mr. Holmes will be receiving his diploma at the same ceremony as his granddaughter, Heidi Pangborn.
To provide special recognition for the service and sacrifice of military veterans of WWII and the Korean War, the amended Public Act 181 of 2001 authorizes the board of a Michigan school district to award a high school diploma to a WWII or Korean War veteran. The law permits World War II or Korean War veterans who left high school for immediate military service and did not subsequently receive a high school degree to apply for a diploma. Specific family members are also able to apply on the behalf of a living or deceased veteran.
In addition, the following WWII and Korean War veterans received their high school diplomas earlier this year from a Traverse City Area Public Schools high school for the 2006-2007 school year:
