On July 14, 2006, the Michigan Department of Education released statewide results for the high school graduating Class of 2006 on the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP).

District results showed TCAPS’ Class of 2006 outperformed the State in the percentage of graduating students who met or exceeded proficiency standards in all subject tests including Reading, Math, Writing, Science, and Social Studies MEAP tests. High school students are allowed to take the high school MEAP assessment multiple times throughout their high school years to qualify for Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment programs, and the Michigan Merit Award scholarship.  The “Class of” results represent students’ best scores on the various subject tests throughout their high school careers.

“Our Class of 2006 MEAP achievement results show TCAPS’ graduates performed higher than the State in every subject area test. TCAPS’ results rank higher in comparison to other regions and school districts with much higher per pupil funding levels,” remarked Superintendent Jim Feil. “However, we recognize the continuing need for resources to implement strategically focused instruction, such as in reading, writing, and math to ensure sustained student achievement growth from year to year. Our work is about students. We’re keeping a laser focus on student achievement to ensure all students are successfully progressing through a rigorous curriculum in all subject areas with an emphasis on writing across the curriculum.  We continue to set our goal for 100% proficiency. Another contributing factor to the success of TCAPS’ Class of 2006 MEAP achievement results are the vital caring partnerships among students, parents, staff, and our community who are working together to prepare every student with knowledge and strategies for a lifetime of successful learning,” Superintendent Feil emphasized.

The public will be able to view district results on the Michigan Department of Education Web site: www.michigan.gov.  Additionally, TCAPS’ District results are charted on TCAPS’ District Web site: www.tcaps.net
