On Saturday, June 2, 2007,Westwoods Elementary School PTO will host its 8th annual run/walk event. The event has been successful not only in promoting physical fitness, but also in raising funds to promote literacy development at the school. Over the last several years the profits from the run/walk have purchased materials for the library and enabled classroom teachers to enrich students’ experience in literacy and its development.
This run/walk event features a scenic and flat 5/10-kilometer course that begins across the road from Westwoods Elementary School, winds its way through beautiful Carter Woods Subdivision, and finishes back on the circle drive in front of the school. The kid’s Fun Run will be held entirely on school grounds after the completion of the 5/10 k run/walk. There will be plenty of good food with a delicious hotdog cookout after the race. This year there will also be a silent auction.
Medals and trophies are awarded to top finishers in the 5/10K and all participants in the children’s event receive awards. This event has become known as one of the area’s best 5K races. The new 10-kilometer event is for those racers who need something a little more than 5k.
The event is open to everyone, and the public is invited to attend and/or participate. Race Day Registration: 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m., 5/10k Start Time: 9:00 a.m.; Fun Run Start Time: 10:15 a.m.
