Traverse City Central High School’s Black & Gold Newspaper Adviser, Missi Yoemans, has received the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association’s (MIPA) 2007 Adviser of the Year Award. Yoemans was nominated by co-EIC Maureen Stych, who submitted a portfolio comprised of past awards, peer nominations, and past and present student nominations.
“I have enjoyed a lot of synergy this year. I also have some great mentors at Central High School. It’s amazing what happens when taxpayers pass a millage, and when the technology department works with you and your peers so you have the equipment you need. It’s amazing when you have an administration that understands student press rights, dialogues with student journalists on an intellectual level about newsworthy issues, gives them access to information, and responds promptly,” commented Missi Yoemans. “ More than anything, it is amazing what happens when one is blessed with amazing students.”
