Eight students from Traverse City Area Public Schools have been named Commended Students in the 2007 National Merit Scholarship Program. The scholastically talented students are: Katherine A. Belknap, Caleb A. Park, Evan M. Perry, Anne E. Prisk, and Connor J. Sweeney from Traverse City West Senior High School and Jocelyn Ballast, Elizabeth Norton and Rachel Throop from Traverse City Central High School. Each of these students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.4 million students who entered the 2007 competition by taking the 2005 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The students will receive a Letter of Commendation from their high school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program.
Two students from Traverse City Central High School, Christopher Little and Adam Begley have been named Semifinalists in the 2007 National Merit Scholarship Program. These students will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards, worth $33 million, that will be offered next spring.
