Traverse City East Junior High School eighth grader, Alex Lipp, earned Second Place at the state level in the annual National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Essay Contest. This year’s topic was “Jamestown Colony is Settled.” This a great honor as students from all over the state participate.
The Job Winslow Chapter of the DAR sponsors the local contest. Lonette Morley is the History Chairperson of the Chapter who engineered the local competition in the northern Michigan area. The Chapter judges praised all entries for the students’ “facility with the language and their writing skills.”
Twenty-five eighth grade students participated in the competition. They include:
Andrew Cater Briggs Chapman
Scott Eggli Molly Grettenberger
Megan Esckelson Celeste Heinz
Chris Heimburger Nicole Helmbodt
Karl Jacobson Tess Kohler
James Lyon Jessica Lang
John Noble Katherine Little
Mackenzie Sovereign Aimee Marsh
Elyse Spence Mark Madion
Kevin Trippe Carly Moore
