Not only does April mean Spring, but to Glenn Loomis Elementary School students, it also means poetry. All month long, Glenn Loomis’ library will be a “Poetry Café,” where students recite poetry written by themselves or poetry that they enjoy. During the month, special visitors will spend time with the students to enhance the poetry experience and assist students in the creative writing process. The following poetry workshops are planned for April:
April 10, 2007: Terry Wooten, poet and bard from Stone Circle will present and hold poetry workshops in the school library. At 9:00 a.m. Wooten will begin a presentation of his poetry followed by student workshops at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Afternoon sessions at 1:00 p.m. and 2:10 p.m. will be held for students’ finished poems to be critiqued and presented.
April 24, 2007: Poet, author, musician, and puppeteer, Kevin Kammeraad, will present Kevin Kammeraad and the Tomato Collection in the school library at 11:45 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. His presentation will encourage and motivate the students’ interest in creativity, writing, and music.
The “Poetry Café” and workshops have been made possible by grant funding received from TBA Credit Union and MEEMIC Insurance/Harvitt Agency.
