Lauren Blanchard, a junior at Traverse City Central High School and a member of the SCI-MA-TECH program, had the honor of being selected as one of twenty students to participate in the Michigan-Shiga Student Exchange Program. Lauren lived with a family and attended school in Shiga, Japan during a two-week period in July. Now the Shiga student, Yuki Ota, who hosted Lauren, will be coming to Michigan and spending two weeks attending school while staying with Lauren and her family. Yuki will attend classes with Lauren at Traverse City Central High School from September 11 – 22, 2006.
As part of the Michigan-Shiga Student Exchange Program, three chaperones from Shiga will be visiting Traverse City Central High School on Monday, September 18th at 9:00 a.m. The visiting chaperones, Mr. Kuniyoshi Huzui, a high school principal and lead chaperone, Mr. Toshitada Kitagawa, an English teacher, and Ms. Mariko Tomioka, an English teacher, along with Gerry Congleton, a member of the Michigan-Shiga Student Exchange Committee will tour the high school, observe classes, and meet with Lauren and Yuki to discuss the program and hear about the students’ experiences.
