Silver Lake Elementary School is gearing up for its 3rd annual Move-A-Thon fundraiser on October 5th by spending the next three weeks learning about the importance of making healthy lifestyle choices and collecting pledges to support students’ participation in the Move-A-Thon event. During school lunchtimes, students will be learning about the different food groups and students’ healthy eating habits will be recognized. Students are also being encouraged to increase their exercise at home to prepare for and get in shape for the Move-A-Thon.
During the Move-A-Thon on October 5th, students will run/walk laps on Silver Lake’s new 1/6-mile track (paid for in part by the first two Move-A-Thons and a grant from the Oleson Foundation) and go through exercise stations set up in the center of the track. All monies raised from this event will go to the Silver Lake Elementary PTO and have been slated for the addition of a preschool playground, outdoor education/study trips, and classroom start up expenses. The goal for this year’s fundraiser is $14,000.
