On Friday, March 2, 2007 U. S. Disabled Ski Team Member, Tyler Walker, will visit three TCAPS schools to speak with students and share his experiences. Visitation schedule is as follows:
TC West Junior High School 7:50 a.m. – 8:40 a.m. Assembly in Gymnasium
TC Central High School 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Visit P.E. Classes
TC East Junior High School 1:59 p.m. – 2:42 p.m. Assembly in Gymnasium
Tyler Walker was born with a spinal defect called lumbar sacral agenesis and as a result had both legs amputated at the knee when he was only four years old. Tyler discovered skiing at a very young age and has been wowing spectators ever since. Tyler participated in his first Olympics in the 2006 Paralympics Winter Games.
After competing in the Paralympics, Tyler went on to compete in the World Cup taking first place in the Giant Slalom and finishing third overall in the World Cup standings. In January of this year, Tyler took first place winning the gold medal in the official debut of mono-skier X in the 11th Winter X Games held in Aspen, Colorado.
