Why: Marissa Wood-Sternburgh, a senior at Traverse City West Senior High School, has committed to play soccer at the University of Tennesse-Martin next season. UT-Martin is a Division I school in the Ohio Valley Conference.
The daughter of Shelley Wood and Dennis Sternburgh, Marissa has been a varsity player all four years and has served as captain. She has been named to the BNC (Big North Conference) All-Conference Team, All-District, All-Region and All-State Academic Team. Marissa will be enrolled in the Honors Program at UT-Martin and will be playing with her former West teammate, Jamie Furstenberg, who is just completing her freshman year at the university.
“The entire West and soccer community is thrilled to see Marissa pursuing this opportunity to play at the highest level at a fine academic institution. Her hard work and athleticism have paid off. We wish her all the best,” commented TC West Soccer Coach Jim Sullivan.
Marissa will be honored at a simulated signing ceremony on Thursday, February 22, in the main office. Media is welcome.
