Traverse City East Junior High School’s 7th and 8th grade Math Team Performed very well at the Regional Math Counts Competition held on February 10th at Northwestern Michigan College.
Four students from East Junior High School participated in the Regional competition. Seventh grader Leah Jodin took first place in the Regional Math Counts Competition; Eighth grader Chris Gauthier took fourth place; and Seventh grader Elizabeth Sigworth took tenth place. Also participating was seventh grader Sophie Kelly who finished 11th in the local school competition and whose score helped the East team take second place winning $100 Savings Bonds (donated by Huntington National Bank), $10 Toys R Us gift card, and a trophy for all team members.
The team competed against 82 students from 14 teams in the regional competition. Prior to going to the regionals, a school competition was held last March to determine which students would be eligible to participate. Ten students from East Junior High School were selected to compete in the regionals. Of those students, only four were able to attend the competition.
The East Junior High School Math Team will be traveling to Warren, Michigan on March 24, 2007 to compete in the State Math Counts Competition.
