TCAPS will showcase “school bus” safety and host family friendly activities at an information booth during the “Back to School” Friday Night Live event on Friday, August 25, 2006, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Activities will be offered throughout the evening for youth of all ages and their families that include: Way to Grow sensory activities, school bus safety demonstrations, and a chance to “Be a TCAPS Star” on TCAPS’ TV 98! Staff and students from TCAPS’ music department will have several instruments available for anyone interested in trying them out and learning more about TCAPS’ music program.

Every Step Counts will also have activities at Friday Night Live including a jump rope marathon with continuous jumping from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Healthy recipes and information will be available from the Farm to School Program and Taste the Local Difference. Every Step Counts is a Traverse City Area Public Schools initiative with a focus on increased physical activity and improved nutritional choices made possible by a three-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

TCAPS’ SCI-MA-TECH Program will also be featured at Friday Night Live. Families can stop by and drive a robot, make some slime and turn a calculator into a car. SCI-MA-TECH is based at Traverse City Central High School and offers students in grades 10 – 12 enhanced opportunities in math, science, and technology.
