Traverse City Central Grade School participated in the 18th Annual National Geographic
Geography Bee school level competition on January 10, 2006, using materials prepared by the
National Geographic Society. The contest is designed to encourage teachers to include
geography in their classrooms and spark student interest in the subject. Geography Bee
competition questions required students to interpret maps, graphs, and photographs. The three
levels of the Geography Bee competitions include school, state, and national levels.
The following students qualified as grade level winners and competed in the school level of the
National Geographic Geography Bee competition on January 10, 2006:
Traverse City Central Grade School Sixth Grade Contestants
Zackary Brooks, Laura Jessmore, Charlie Trubac, and Cody Wooters.
Traverse City Central Grade School Fifth Grade Contestants
Patrick Kiessling, Jack Murphy, and Sara Riker.
Traverse City Central Grade School Fourth Grade Contestants
Cody Copeland, Fisher Diede, and Jake Khoury.
Charlie Trubac, a sixth grade student at Traverse City Central Grade School, won the school
level competition. Charlie will now take a written test to qualify for the state level National
Geographic Geography Bee held in April. Traverse City Central Grade School sixth grade
students Zackary Brooks and Laura Jessmore were the first and second runners up for the school
level competition.
Congratulations to all of the Traverse City Central Grade School students who participated in the
18th Annual National Geographic Geography Bee.
