On Tuesday, May 19th, fifty-one students from across Northern Michigan presented research projects at the Fifth Annual Northern Michigan Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Symposium (NMMESS). At NMMESS, students presented projects that answered a scientific, mathematical, or engineering question, or solved a problem. A committee of local secondary educators, college educators, and business/industry professionals reviewed the student projects and presentations.

On Wednesday, June 3rd, students from Old Mission Peninsula School will celebrate the success of obtaining a reading challenge. Each student who met their reading challenge will tap into the glitz and glamour of star-struck Hollywood and be presented with a metal “Oscar” statue similar to the statue that is presented to winners of Academy Awards. The presentation will begin at 5:00 p.m. in the NMC Hagerty Conference Center at the Great Lakes Campus of Northwestern Michigan College. At NMMESS, students present projects that answer a scientific, mathematical, or engineering question, or solve a problem. A committee of local secondary educators, college educators, and business/industry professionals review the student projects and presentations. Visitors and participants are encouraged to ask the students about their measurement techniques, collected data, and presented results.
