On Thursday, May 14th, Blair Elementary School students will perform with the Cherry Capital Chorus and the Grand Traverse Region’s Men’s Choir to continue the tradition of group singing. Blair Elementary School students have benefited greatly from past involvement with the Cherry Capital Chorus and their continued support and commitment to students and music. In the past the chorus has provided books, school materials, and sponsored buses for school activities.

Eastern Elementary School Library Club has been collecting pennies to benefit the “Pennies for Peace” organization since January. Since then, $1,336.07 was collected by students, parents, teachers, and staff. The money raised from this penny drive will be sent to Greg Mortenson’s “Pennies for Peace” program and will help the Central Asia Institute continue to build schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan and develop literacy among the children in those countries. The Eastern Elementary School students have learned that even the smallest members of our society, using the smallest coins we have, can make a big difference.
