TC West Senior High School and TC Central High School Named Among Best High Schools in America!
The US News and World Report (click here for report) named Traverse City West Senior High School and Traverse City Central High School two of the top performing high schools in the state and nation this past week. TC West was ranked 14th in Michigan and TC Central was ranked 17th in Michigan out of 740 high schools. Only 55 high schools from Michigan made the national list. This ranking puts both high schools in the top 3% nationally. TCAPS was the only school district in our region to rank top 20 in Michigan’s top 20 high schools. Best High School rankings are determined by:
1) how each high school meets the needs of the entire student population,
2) each high schools performance in relation to its peer group on State of Michigan assessments, and
3) how well each high school prepared students for college.
The US News and World Report analyzed Michigan Department of Education data for all high schools in the state. Data included ACT and MME performance, Advanced Placement Performance and enrollment, and graduation rates. This is an incredible accomplishment by the collective community of students, parents, teaching staff, support staff, and principal leadership at West Senior High and Central High School. We recognize that our high schools are able to attain this level of success through students that get the very best preparation along their educational journey leading up to high school.
TCAPS High Schools Ranked Among "Best High Schools" in The Washington Post High School Challenge
TCAPS Central High School and West Senior High School have been recognized by The Washington Post’s Best High School list. The Washington Post’s Challenge Index measures a public high school’s effort to challenge its students and prepare them for college. The index is determined by dividing the number of Advanced Placement (AP) or other college-level tests given by the school in 2010 by the number of graduating seniors. The Post rated over 1,900 high schools nationally. Of the 37 Michigan schools that made the list, TC Central High School placed 24th with a 1.399 index and TC West Senior High School placed 26th with a 1.387 index. This is an indication of the wonderful work being done by teachers, support staff, and principals in these two schools! Read more
In March, TCAPS was also one of fewer than 400 school districts in the nation and one of only 29 school districts in Michigan to be honored by the College Board with a place on its Advanced Placement Achievement List for opening classroom doors to a significantly broader pool of students, while maintaining or improving the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher.
