 TCAPS Food & Nutrition Services

Welcome to the Food & Nutrition Services department of the Traverse City Area Public Schools District.

Our mission, as an extension of the educational programs of the School District, is dedicated to the improvement of the health of students by providing flavorful and nutritious meals at an affordable cost, to provide service to the School, to enhance the educational environment, and have a positive impact on the community.

Free Breakfast, Lunch, & Snack Program at Traverse Heights, Blair, and Suttons Bay Elementary Schools

Michigan is one of ten states selected to participate in a pilot program providing a free meal service option to schools in need, titled the Community Eligibility Option (CEO).  TCAPS applied for the participation in the CEO, which has been accepted by the Michigan Department of Education at Traverse Heights, Blair, and Suttons Bay Elementary (for whom TCAPS Food & Nutrition Services operates).  All students at participating schools will receive free meals beginning October 10th, 2011.

Traverse Heights and Blair Elementary have also been awarded the Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Grant, which provides free snacks during the school day consisting of either a fresh fruit or vegetable.  TCAPS Food & Nutrition Services gives preference to locally sourced produce for this program.

FREE & REDUCED LUNCH APPLICATION

Application - Now Available Online
The current economic climate in the State of Michigan and across the country has raised uncertainties for families. Job losses, buy-outs, and rising costs of living are all having a greater impact on families. Families who were previously managing sufficiently, may now be finding it more challenging financially to make ends meet. If you find yourself in this situation, your student(s) may be eligible to receive reduced or free meals (including breakfast and lunch) at school.

Applications are available at all schools, and are sent home with students during the first week of school. To apply online, click on the link "Apply for Free or Reduced Lunch" on the left-hand side of this page or visit
www.lunchapp.com and follow the instructions for Traverse City Area Public Schools.

If you submit the application online, you do not have to fill out and submit a paper application. Online applications may allow your application to be processed. Whether you apply online or by paper application, once the application is processed a letter will be mailed to your home with the status of the application within (10) business days. Prompt return of the completed application is requested so that we can better serve you.
If you have questions regarding the free and reduced meal application process, please contact the TCAPS Food Service Department at (231) 933-1910.
