Jun. 1 - Community Bake Sale to Benefit TCAPS Preschool - 8:00 AM - 1:30 PM - The community is invited to take part in an old fashioned bake sale. The Downtown TC Old Fashioned Bake Sale is a family-friendly event created specifically to raise money for the TCAPS Preschool Programs. Funds will supplements TCAPS' new scholarship program as it works toward its goal of universal preschool for all. The sale will take in the parking lot across from the Omelette Shoppe on Cass Street. Some participating partners include Kilwin's, Sugarkissed, Little Bohemia and GJ's. Baked goods and other items will be for sale as well as activities for children including "Dunk Your Principal" dunk tank. Empowerment Through the Arts, Ages 6 - 17 Andre's Place provides an art program for youth who are living with physical, emotional & cognitive challenges. Classes are held on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM for children age 6 - 12 and from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM for teens age 13 - 17. Offered are a studio, art supplies instruction, and a gallery to exhibit artists' work. The goal is to instill self-confidence through self expression with the use of a variety of mediums; acrylics, water colors,pastels, paper mache, mixed media, clay etc. Andre's Place's vision is to eventually incorporate all art forms at some point including music, drama dance, etc. Andre's Place also offers many opportunities for socializing and recreational activities. Volunteers Needed for Andre's Place/Empowerment Through the Arts Andre's Place is an art program for children & adults age 6 - 60 living with physical, emotional and cognitive challenges. It is a non profit organization and is run strictly by qualified volunteers. It's Director is currently seeking mature persons who possess a desire to assist in class and serve this population of people in helping them self express through art. The mission of the Grand Traverse County Resource Recovery Department is to protect the public health and environment of our community by efficiently managing waste materials with a focus on resource conservation. The "Take It Back" program provides information where consumers can return unwanted products to local providers/businesses for reuse, recycling or responsible disposal. The program is growing on a weekly basis.
