Clubs/Teams

Clubs are an excellent way for students to be involved during their high school years. Below are several clubs offered at Central High School:

Debate Students learn the intricacies of debate through covering everything from the detailed rules and procedures that are part of debating to the best way to research a topic. They also learn how to discern what's relevant in the overabundance of information that is now available on the Internet. Students learn and successfully utilize research techniques, critical thinking skills, presentation skills and leadership skills all the while tackling meaty national issues. High school debaters can also qualify for college scholarships. For TCAPS students, Honors Debate class counts toward a Visual Performing Applied Arts credit.

                           Key Club Logo

Key Club is a service organization for high school students, which operates under school regulations and draws its membership from the student body. Key Club is unique because it is sponsored by a local Kiwanis club, composed of the leading business
and professional people of the community. Key Club's objective is the development of initiative, leader- ship ability, and good citizenship practices.

Natural Helpers Logo

Natural Helpers is a comprehensive peer-helping program for students in grades 6-12. It makes use of a network already existing in school communities to help young people help their friends with everyday problems, refer serious problems to trained professionals,
and take good care of themselves.

National Honor Society Logo

The National Honor Society was founded in 1921 with the hope to create an organization that would recognize and encourage academic achievement while developing other characteristics essential to good citizenship. The ideals of scholarship,
character, service and leadership are as important today as they were in 1921.

Youth in Government (YIG) is a program run through the YMCA that empowers students to become involved in government. YIG allows students to write and debate bills, sit in the House and Senate seats at the Capital Building, and pass bills that will actually go to Jennifer Granholm's desk!  Anyone interested in leadership, debate, and/or state legislature should join.
